Transparency First
Privacy Policy
How we handle your data and respect your privacy.
Who We Are
Peak Adam is a guide to Amsterdam written by someone who actually lives here. We share curated recommendations for hotels, restaurants, bars, and things to do — plus honest advice about neighborhoods and travel tips. This privacy policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you visit peakadam.com and our related sites.
What Data Do We Collect?
Analytics & Browsing
We use analytics to understand how visitors use Peak Adam. This includes pages visited, time on site, and general location (city level, not street address). This data is collected by Vercel Analytics and helps us improve the site. You can opt out by disabling analytics in your browser settings.
Affiliate Link Clicks
When you click an affiliate link (to Expedia, Hotels.com, TheFork, GetYourGuide, Viator, or other partners), we record:
- Which link was clicked
- Which partner (Expedia, Hotels.com, etc.)
- Approximate time of click
- A session ID (not personally identifiable)
We track this to measure which recommendations actually help people and to ensure we're paid correctly by our partners. We do not track what you buy or your personal details beyond the click itself.
Optional Data
If you sign up for our newsletter, we collect your email address. We use this only to send you occasional travel tips and updates about new recommendations. You can unsubscribe anytime.
What We Don't Collect
We do not collect or ask for: payment information, credit card details, passwords, personal identity documents, health information, or any data beyond what's listed above.
Cookies & Tracking
We use cookies for two main reasons:
Our Cookies
Session cookies to track which pages you visit and improve your experience. These expire when you close your browser.
Affiliate Partner Cookies
When you click an affiliate link and are redirected to Expedia, Hotels.com, GetYourGuide, or other partners, those companies place their own tracking cookies. These allow them to credit us for your booking and calculate commission. Cookie windows vary by partner:
- Expedia & Hotels.com: 7 days
- Viator: 30 days
- GetYourGuide, TheFork, others: 7–30 days (varies)
You can disable third-party cookies in your browser settings, but this may prevent affiliate tracking and affect partner service quality.
How to Opt Out
Most browsers let you disable cookies entirely. Some also offer "Do Not Track" settings. If you disable tracking cookies, we still can't affiliate track, and partners may not credit us for bookings — which is fine, that's your choice.
Affiliate Partnerships & Commission Disclosure
Peak Adam earns commission when you book hotels, buy tour tickets, or rent cars through our links. This is how we keep the site running and fund our recommendations. Here's the full breakdown:
| Partner | Commission | Category |
|---|---|---|
| Expedia | 4–6% | Hotels, flights, packages |
| Hotels.com | 4–6% | Hotels |
| Viator | 8% | Tours, activities, experiences |
| GetYourGuide | Varies | Tours, activities, experiences |
| TheFork / Iens | Varies | Restaurant reservations |
| Tiqets | Varies | Museum & attraction tickets |
| Daisycon, CJ Affiliate, AWIN | Varies | Multiple partners & categories |
Importantly: You pay the same price whether you use our links or book directly. We don't mark up prices or insert ourselves between you and the provider. The commission comes from the booking partner's marketing budget, not from you.
If you see an affiliate link on Peak Adam, it will be marked or labeled as such (e.g., "Book on Expedia", "Check availability"). We also include this disclosure in our site footer: "Some links on this site are affiliate links. If you book through them, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you."
Third-Party Services & Data Sharing
We share data with these services only to the extent necessary to operate the site and track affiliate commissions:
Affiliate Networks
Partnerize, CJ Affiliate, AWIN, Daisycon, and Viator receive click and conversion data to process commissions and fraud prevention.
Booking Partners
Expedia, Hotels.com, GetYourGuide, and others receive your browsing and booking data when you click through (standard for any affiliate link).
Hosting & Analytics
Vercel (our hosting platform) and Vercel Analytics collect anonymized usage data. Read their privacy policy at vercel.com.
Email & Newsletter
If you subscribe to our newsletter, your email is stored securely and used only to send you Peak Adam updates. We do not sell your email to any third party.
Legal Requirements
We may disclose your information if required by law, court order, or legitimate legal process. We will not voluntarily sell your data to advertisers or data brokers.
How Long Do We Keep Your Data?
Analytics Data
Vercel Analytics retains anonymized usage data for 12 months, then deletes it.
Affiliate Click Data
We keep affiliate click records for 24 months (for commission reconciliation with partners). After that, we delete session IDs and retain only aggregated, anonymized statistics.
Email Subscription
We keep your email for as long as you're subscribed. Unsubscribe anytime and we'll delete it within 7 days.
Your Privacy Rights
Depending on your location, you have rights over your data:
EU / GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation)
If you're in the EU, you have the right to:
- Access: Request a copy of the data we hold about you
- Rectify: Correct inaccurate information
- Erase: Request deletion ("right to be forgotten")
- Restrict: Limit how we use your data
- Port: Receive your data in a portable format
- Object: Opt out of processing (e.g., analytics)
California (CCPA)
If you're in California, you have the right to know, delete, and opt out of data sales. We don't sell data, but you can request a copy of what we have.
How to Exercise Your Rights
Email us at privacy@peakadam.com with your request. Include "GDPR Request," "CCPA Request," or "Privacy Request" in the subject line. We'll respond within 30 days.
Data Security
We take security seriously. All data transmitted to Peak Adam is encrypted in transit (HTTPS). We store data on Supabase (a secure PostgreSQL service) and Vercel (enterprise-grade hosting). We do not store payment information on our servers — all payments are handled by third-party partners (Expedia, Hotels.com, etc.) using their own security.
While we implement reasonable security measures, no system is completely risk-free. If you have security concerns, please contact us immediately.
Children's Privacy
Peak Adam is intended for adults planning travel. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected data from a child under 13, we will delete it immediately. If you believe we have collected such data, please contact us at privacy@peakadam.com.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy occasionally to reflect changes in our practices, technology, or legal requirements. We'll post the updated policy here and update the "Last Updated" date below. If the changes are significant, we'll notify you via email (if you've subscribed to our newsletter) or via a prominent site notice.
Questions or Concerns?
If you have questions about this privacy policy or how we handle your data, please reach out. We're committed to being transparent and responsive.
